Ailing Renato knows his time is running out; his mind is willing but his body no longer able.
His three children, devoted as they are, are now the ones to decide what’s best for him. Montserrat, Renato’s divorced and self-conscious daughter, lovingly but firmly takes care of him. Anita, who’s pregnant, has a failing marriage. And Salvador, his son, who suffered most with the loss of their mother.
However, it is with his granddaughter, little Carlotta, that he most enjoys his days. Wide-eyed, she takes on board the life lessons Renato shares with great affection.
Much to Renato’s chargin, his daughters resolve to send him to hospital. But with Carlota as willing accomplice, he plots to escape and sail from Venezuela to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil, as he once promised his deceased wife.
Director Alejandro García Wiedemann guides this gentle comedy with great warmth and delicacy. The ensemble cast reminding us of the importance of family ties across generations.
