“The latest bold directorial talent from Latin America.” – The Hollywood Reporter
Tomás, an Afro-Colombian teenager who fled the country’s violence-ravaged Pacific coast, faces the difficulties of growing up in Bogota, a city of exclusion and racism. When Jairo, his younger brother disappears, Tomás is compelled to leave his home to look for him. With the help from his older brother Chaco, Tomás plunges in the streets of the city. His search becomes an initiatory journey that forces him to face his past and leave aside the influence of his brothers in order to find his own identity. Through this journey, Tomás reveals a unique perspective of a vibrant and unstable city that, like Tomàs, stands on the threshold between what once was and what might be.
With a stomping hip-hop soundtrack, La Playa DC is a story of heartbreak, heart drugs and hairdressing.

La Playa D.C.: Cannes Review
Writer-director Juan Andrés Arango emerges with his auspicious, tonsorially-themed debut focusing on a teenage apprentice barber coping with the mean streets of Bogotá.
Three decades after unknown film-student Spike Lee unveiled Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads, writer-director Juan Andrés Arango emerges straight outta Bogotá with his own auspicious, tonsorially-themed debut La Playa DC Focusing on a teenage apprentice barber coping with the city’s forbiddingly mean streets, it’s a minutely-observed peek into hardscrabble lives that pours intoxicatingly fresh aguardiente into a rather dusty old bottle. Plentiful festival play should flow from its Un Certain Regard premiere at Cannes, cementing Arango as Colombia’s most notable cinematic export since Oscar-nominated actress Catalina Sandino Moreno …. read on at Hollywood Reporter
