Shorts & Sounds is all about showcasing Latino music, film and dance. It’s not just about having a great time – we’re celebrating the diversity of Latin American culture. This year we’re back with an amazing line-up of traditional and contemporary Latin influences. Sizzling live music, dance performances, short films – plus don’t forget your dance shoes, as we Salsa the night away.
- Bossa Nova Smooth – In her authentic Brazilian style, the amazing Gabriela Soares’s smooth and soulful voice will captivate you through a session of unforgettable Bossa Nova classics, with a little help from her friends. If you haven’t already, come discover this fusion of samba and jazz that put Brazil on the musical world map.
- Afro-Cuban Salsa – Let loose on the dance floor with La Brava, a refreshing alternative to conventional Salsa bands. Feel the rhythm of other popular Afro Caribbean dance styles with some of Australia’s finest Latin musicians. A rich fusion of contemporary with traditional, laced with propelling choruses, tight harmonies, funky grooves and plenty of ‘Timba’ style breakdowns.
- Enjoy a screening of some of the top short films selected by the annual Sydney Latin American Film Festival.
- Be entranced by the smooth and sensual moves of Brazilian Lambazouk. Ever tried the Lambada? Originating from that iconic dance, watch as the professionals Sandrina Clement and Ifty Omar show us how it’s done.
