The Sydney Latin American Film Festival presents Cine Lounge with a screening of Hortensia: A kooky coming-of-age comedy in the vein of Wes Anderson.
Fresh from sold out session, encore screenings and legendary Opening and Closing Night events, the Sydney Latin American Film Festival is back with its much loved Cine Lounge screenings: a night of great films, drinks and food in the best company! Cinema is an experience shared by the community and in this spirit, we are bringing you the best in Latin American cinema to enjoy in the relaxed, communal atmosphere of 107 Projects.
The evening will of course have flavoursome Argentinian bites for sale with drinks and great music to get you in the mood for this quirky, funny film that is perfect for a date night!
Hortensia (Argentina) has been compared to the works of Wes Anderson and has been described as the “Argentinian Amelie”. Directors Diego Lublinsky and Alvaro Urtizberea have crafted a hilariously weird film full of deadpan humour, original characters and a universe where the air of the greater Buenos Aires coexists with the echoes of the Soviet Sixties.

HORTENSIA | 2015 | ARGENTINA |
Dir. Diego Lublinsky and Alvaro Urtizberea

Life isn’t going according to plan for 22 year old Hortensia. She has just lost her father to a freak accident involving the kitchen fridge. Her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. And on top of that she has lost her job at a shoe store. Alone, apart from her dog, whose days on this earth are numbered, she finds a memo she wrote at 14: “Goals for Happiness: 1) Marry a boy who is blond like my father; 2) design the most beautiful shoe in the world.” She sets out to achieve her younger self’s game plan. But recipes for happiness often go awry.
