Feature Director BIO – Claudia Huaiquimilla

Claudia Huaiquimilla is a Chilean young woman of Mapuche origin. She studied Audiovisual Direction at the Catholic University of Chile. The traumas she lived in her childhood and the rescue of her indigenous roots are part of the topics she is looking to treat and deepen in her audiovisual work. She wrote and directed her first short film Saint John, The Longest Night (2012) to great international acclaim. Her interest in rescuing her indigenous culture determined the line to follow in her first feature length Bad Influence.

Featured Short Film
Empty on the Outside/ Vazio do Lado de Fora

Short, Brazil, 2017, Dir. Eduardo Brandão Pinto, 19 min, Universidade Federal Fluminense
Empty on the Outside was shot in Vila Autódromo, a community that resisted the devastation of the Rio de Janeiro earthquake of 2016. After the demolition of the houses and streets, only bodies or shattered lives remained. There, a girl got ready for a party, an old woman prayed, a daughter folded shirts, a couple counted stars, a boy did tricks on his bike, another boy danced with his pet turtle.
